Best country for solo traveling

Imagine a place where blue waters meet rugged mountains and where golden sunsets paint the sky with orange and pink. Welcome to Croatia, my favorite travel destination!

Hi! My name is Nelly and I'm from Sweden. I'm a full-time student at SBCC, majoring in Marketing but I also work part-time for the Study Abroad Program Office. Travelling has always been a huge part of my life and ever since visiting Croatia for the first time in 2014, it became my favorite travel destination.

Croatia is, in my opinion, a very underrated country that many people might not now off. Located in southeast Europe it borders the Arctic Ocean to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the west and the Mediterranean Sea to the south. Croatia is compromised of 1,244 islands whereas two of them has become my favorites - Brač and Hvar.

My first time visiting Croatia, I went to Hvar together with my family. We spent two weeks relaxing by the ocean, going on boat trips and eating loads of ice-cream!

The last time I visited Croatia was in 2021 during Covid-19. I had gotten a job opportunity in the United States but in order to travel to the US I had to stay two weeks outside of the Schengen Area which encompasses most EU countries, including Sweden. Croatia is not included in Schengen so my choice on where to go was quite easy. I was 19 years old when I traveled to Croatia for two weeks by myself. In the beginning, I was very nervous but soon realized how comfortable I felt being in Croatia by myself. The people and the way everything is laid out makes you feel very safe.

I stayed at a beautiful island called Brač. If you ever go there I recommend visiting Zlatni rat beach in Bol. It is one of the most exceptional beaches in the Mediterranean.

With that being said, I highly recommend going to Croatia for your next travel, even if you are traveling solo. The country is super safe, people are welcoming and helpful and of course, lets not forget the breathtaking views!
