Did you know this is about Germany?

There is so much to explore in the beautiful country of Germany. But did you know that many famous quotes, companies, and famous people we know are from Germany?

Albert Einstein

“I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.”

When we hear Albert Einstein's quote we may realize that imagination is the catalyst for both art and science. The German scientist of course has many famous quotes.

“If you can't explain it to a six-year-old, you don't understand it yourself.”

This applies to art as well as sciences. Think of one of your favorite works of art. Could you explain the piece to a 6-year-old? It might actually be simpler than you think. Draw on your imagination and you will realize that there are many ways to explain art. A scientific approach is one way, or you might focus on how the art makes you feel, the components of the artwork, the materials being used to create it, the motivation behind it, or the composition!

The company BMW

"We at BMW do not build cars as consumer objects, just to drive from A to B. We build mobile works of art."

This quote comes from Chris Bangle, the first American chief of design at BMW. Bangle was responsible for the BMW, MINI, and Rolls-Royce cars and designed the Z9 Gran Turismo concept car. Even if you are not that much into cars, you can see how art, design, engineering, and more all overlap as looks and functionality need to both be considered! How amazing!

Henri Matisse

"Creativity takes courage"

This famous quote by artist Henri Matisse surely hits a nerve with many who consider themselves creatives. Art is very personal and creating and sharing art forces you to put it all out there.

German inventions

In addition to famous artworks, music, films, and poetry there are many inventions that came from Germany. Nikolaus August Otto invented the gasoline engine, Rudolph Diesel invented the diesel engine, Hans von Ohain invented the jet engine (simultaneously but independently from Englishman Frank Whittle), Wilhelm Röntgen invented X-ray photography (Röntgenography), and German immigrant to America, Frank Röbling invented the steel cable suspension bridge.
