How to pack for three months abroad!

by Marie Roettger

You might ask yourself: How am I supposed to fit stuff for three months into one suitcase?? We know it sounds impossible, but we have some tips that make it super easy for you to pack for your time abroad!

First, it’s important to write a list. With that, you have everything you need together, and packing will be way easier. Write down everything you need. Documents, clothes, medication, credit card, and so on. Start writing the list some weeks before you want to pack your suitcase. There will be moments where you think about something specific that just comes to your mind, and you may want to add that to your list.

Researching the weather and the climate is always a good idea when you’re thinking about what to pack for a longer trip. Are you going to Europe? The weather over there changes constantly. You might want to bring short sleeves as well as sweaters. You don’t know which sweaters you want to take with you? The best thing to keep in mind is: If you haven’t worn the sweater in the last months, you’ll not wear one abroad! So only bring your favorite things with you.

Remember to pack things like a socket adapter, your passport, your visa, your credit card, and some cash in the foreign currency. It’s always a good idea to make copies of all the important documents and leave them with your parents and have another copy in your suitcase, in case you’re losing something. Never walk around with your passport! Bring your ID to go out, and keep your passport at a safe place in your room. Replacing a lost passport while traveling isn’t that easy!

Besides that, another important tip is not to bring stuff that you can buy at your destination, like shampoo, conditioner, and toothpaste. These things are just heavy and you can buy them for little money in the shops at your destination.

Start to pack your suitcase three to four days before leaving. With your list next to you, you can be sure not to forget anything important, and you will be finished with packing faster than you expect! Make sure to check the weight limit of the airline you’re traveling with. Having a suitcase heavier than the limit can be really expensive!! Maybe you also want to leave some space for souvenirs? Always keep in mind that you need to have enough space for everything on the way back as well.

Suitcase packed and you’re good to go? Make sure you go over your list again, to be positive that you didn’t forget anything.
