Japan, Tokyo. It is one of the most lively cities in the world, a dream destination for many people. In my last post, I put together a playlist for traveling in Germany. Be sure you check that our HERE if you missed it. I'm excited to continue with part 2 of the playlist blog posts where I talk about my favorite music of a specific country and travel destination for Study Abroad.
Next year we’re going to make a dream come true as you’ll have the opportunity to go to Tokyo, Japan, in the summer of 2024!
Curious what you can possibly listen to in Tokyo? Let's start with the list!
TOKYO, JAPAN:
J-pop is easily the most popular music genre in Japan, however today I want to recommend music that is more on the experimental side of things for a change.
This is a song and an album simultaneously. It's the most calm, perfect, and soothing study music to listen to. “LONG SEASON” by the “Fishmans” as its name implies is a long 35:16 track separated into 5 untitled chapters that all build up on each other.
In my opinion, nothing beats “LONG SEASON,” even outside of Japan. Give it a go and be invited to a journey. Perfect for long travels.
Japan is also the hotspot for various incredible video game companies and franchises including “The Legend of Zelda,” “Persona,” or “Resident Evil.” In particular “Konami” which is headquartered in Tokyo has created video game classics in the past and with the mind “Akira Yamaoka” they created the game and soundtrack for “Silent Hill 2”.
The various songs on the soundtrack are nostalgic and dark, but also weirdly beautiful. The tracks “Promise (Reprise)” and “Theme of Laura (Reprise)” are incredible tracks if you want to capture the mysterious feel and atmosphere Japan always has for me.
The group that I want to mention is the extremely bold and experimental band called “Boredoms” with their album “Vision Creation Newsun” which is a hidden and secret recommendation that I randomly found on YouTube and can’t be found on Spotify.
The first track “◯” is pure bliss noise rock and there’s no better way to not describe it as crazy. This music is simply put on fire from beginning to end and is an incredible achievement even if it is not an accessible listen. The more you listen to it, the more you’ll love it.

The next time you’re on the plane for your study abroad trip this playlist will accommodate you for the specific country to travel to. (Disclaimer: There will be songs that are associated with a particular country, but are not strictly in their language.)
