SBCC student Alexis Monique Vasquez has never been to Ireland, but if she had to choose a place to visit, Dublin, Ireland would be her top choice.
When asked why she chose that destination, Alexis said "Ireland looks really beautiful. I’ve heard a lot of good things about the people, culture, and the environment all around is beautiful. As well as the history would be amazing to get to see."
In her opinion, having a history professor lead a program so she could take a history class while abroad would be ideal. She'd also love to learn the language. Even though English is widely spoken in Ireland, Irish, or Gaeilge, is one of Ireland's official languages.
Alexis loves how beautiful Ireland's nature is and would like to explore all the historical landmarks in and around Dublin. Some of those landmarks include the Guinness Storehouse, and St. Stephen's Green, a beautifully manicured park in the Dublin City Center.
The Old Library of Trinity College is another sight not to be missed. The building boasts two levels of floor-to-ceiling wooden shelves packed with books.
You can't miss the Dublin Castle while you are in Dublin. The well-preserved medieval structure will remind you of shows like "Game of Thrones," "Vikings," "Braveheart," "Penny Dreadful," and "Tudors."
St. Patrick's Cathedral is another landmark not to be missed. Ireland's largest cathedral is the headquarters for the Church of Ireland. You will be impressed by the colorful and intricate floor tiles in addition to the gothic revival architecture.
A few other things you want to add to your itinerary are the Crafton Street car-free shopping areas, Moore Street Market, The Winding Stair bookstore and restaurant, and the Temple Bar Book Market, Temple Bar and the Temple Bar Food Market. The Phoenix Park, the Kilmainham Gaol museum, National Botanic Gardens, the National Gallery and the National Museum of Ireland, the Glasnevin Cemetery or the Little Museum of Dublin may also make it onto your itinerary. You could also jump on the DART (electric rail) to head south to Dún Laoghaire or take a stroll on a beach in Dublin such as Sandycove Beach or Dollymount Strand.
