Paris is so timeless, it appears in films time and time again! Explore movies and TV shows who wouldn't settle for a simple set over Paris.
Emily in Paris
This one may seem obvious, but it’s not often that a TV show is filmed mostly outside of Hollywood. Lily Collins and the crew of this breakout Netflix series spent the entire first season filming in Paris and other French locations. When they ventured outside of the City of Light, shooting spots included the French Riviera and Loire Valley. If you’re interested in traveling to these places, consider studying abroad on a program in Paris where you'll be able to make weekend trips around the rest of France over the semester.
As Above So Below
Skulls may come second to scones on your list of associations with Paris, but that doesn't change the fact that miles of catacombs run underfoot in this romantic city. The 2014 horror movie "As Above So Below" capitalizes on these sites, using them as filming locations for a story set in those very tunnels. While we wouldn't recommend traveling through the catacombs alone (and neither would anyone who saw the movie), there are several guided tours that can grant access to this secret underground city safely.
To Catch a Thief
Grace Kelly and Cary Grant both know a thing or two about all that France have to offer. In fact, they got to spend some stretch of time together sharing the views on the French Riviera when they starred in "To Catch a Thief" in 1955. A visit today would finally bring all those dreamy shots into focus like the illustrious Promenade des Anglais in Nice, France which is featured in the film.
Les Miserables
Musicals more your speed? Don't worry, France is still the go-to destination for shots that can't be filmed anywhere else. The 2012 retelling of this popular story is filmed largely in England, with various locations both in London and in the English countryside, but has a few shots from France where the story is actually set. Head south from Paris to Provence and you'd eventually wind up in Gourdon, a small town who's picturesque views landed it a spot alongside Hugh Jackman in "Les Miserables".
Marie Antoinette
Kirsten Dunst makes sure this historical is anything other than boring, breathing new life into one of France's most iconic figures. And where else could this be done besides in France, itself? But the crew doesn't stop there, most of the film actually takes place in the original Palace of Versailles where the queen would have spent most of her time. Guess there's no replicating the beauty of this castle!
