Welcome back to our favorite destinations blog. I couldn't really make up my mind last time because there are just so many awesome destinations so last time I chose Asia.
But another place I would love to go to is Africa. One of the reasons why I chose Africa was because one day I was scrolling through Instagram and this woman named Aketch Joy Winnie popped up on my feed debunking all of the myths that is associated with African culture. As I scrolled through her page I discovered some really cool facts about Africa that made me want to go and experience their culture.
However, before I stumbled upon Aketch's Instagram account I actually began to learn about some African/American history in my human geography class. For example we learned a ton about diamonds in Africa. We learned all about the link that De Beers diamond company has with Africa as well as the agricultural advantages that African land has in terms of being able to grow food. I would love to be able to see it all!!
If I were to go to Africa with SBCC Study Abroad, the classes I would most like to take would be human geography as well as African-American Music Experience.
Since you learn a lot about Africa in Human Geography I believe that it is a fitting subject to study while you're there. In terms of cultural experience I think it would be very enriching to be able to take an African-American Music Experience class because not only are you learning the history of African-American music, you're also staying in the place where it started, and that is so powerful to me.
There's so much that I could say about Africa and why I love it, however we do not have time, so I will say that what I like most about this destination is the culture, the history, as well as the biodiversity that is there. Just imagine being able to pick a fresh mango from a mango tree (with permission of course) or being able to see how they farm their food. I think it would be incredible.
Going to Africa would be an absolute dream and I would enjoy every second of learning about this incredibly rich culture but more than that - experiencing it.
I hope you enjoyed reading my blog post and I leave you with this question:
What's your favorite travel destination?
