When you think about studying abroad, there are some cities that just instantly capture your imagination and Rome is definitely one of them. It’s the kind of place that seems to live in every history book, movie and travel dream. You’ve probably seen photos of the Trevi Fountain and the Colosseum online a hundred times, but somehow they never lose that sense of wonder.
Rome is not just another destination, it’s a city where every corner feels like it has a story to tell! With our Fall 2026 Rome Program approaching next year, here is why you should study abroad in Rome, Italy!

Rome isn’t just old, it’s alive with its past. You can walk past an ancient column on your way to class or grab gelato next to a 2,000-year-old amphitheater. It’s wild to think that daily life moves right alongside ancient ruins that have stood for centuries!
That mix of modern life and ancient history gives Rome a unique energy. It’s not a city frozen in time, it’s one that’s constantly evolving while never losing sight of where it came from!
Art, Architecture and Inspiration Everywhere in Rome
For students in art, history, architecture or even film, Rome is like one big open-air classroom. You’ll find masterpieces by Michelangelo and Bernini in the same city that houses world-changing sites like the Colosseum, the Pantheon and the Vatican.

But even if you’re not studying art or history, it’s hard not to be inspired! The golden light, the piazzas filled with musicians, the street life, it’s a constant reminder that beauty and culture can be part of everyday life!
Food as an Experience
Everyone knows, Italian food is some of the best worldwide! Food in Italy is basically a love language. Rome takes that seriously! Imagine learning to order espresso the local way, discovering your favorite pasta spot or trying classic Roman dishes like cacio e pepe (a peppery cheese pasta). And of course, don't forget to try some Italian Pizza while you're there!

Everyday Life, the Italian Way
Rome isn’t just for tourists, it’s for living. That’s what makes studying abroad there so special. You get to experience the rhythm of local life: morning cappuccinos at a neighborhood café, evening walks through cobblestone streets and long dinners filled with conversation.

Neighborhoods like Trastevere, Testaccio and Monti each have their own personality! Exploring them helps you see the city not just as a visitor, but as part of it!
Why Rome is Perfect for Study Abroad
Studying abroad in Rome means more than just taking classes in a different country, it’s about perspective. It’s about learning how history, art and culture connect with daily life. It’s about adapting to a new pace, one that encourages balance and appreciation.
And for many students, Rome becomes more than just a city on a map. It becomes a chapter of their life story.
